The Club President conducted an enthusiastic Business Session, outlining plans for the near future, both social and academic. There followed a maiden speech by newcomer John Poole, with recollections of his youth; he now looks forward to addressing the remaining basic assignments of the Guide Book. John’s speech was followed by club president Kathleen Smith, who undertook an assignment, demonstrating the use of gestures in public speaking.
The customary impromptu speaking session followed conducted by Doug Weale, inviting those present, to address subject matter of topical interest, without prior knowledge or preparation. The responses and delivery of each speaker were analysed and appraised with constructive evaluation by Trevor Kenning, whose experience constantly offers valued encouraging advice for progress. Education Director Frances Pointer gave an overall summary of the meeting, defining its success, and the enthusiasm of all taking part.
