Edinburgh Association of Speakers Clubs National Conference 2011

On behalf of the Edinburgh Conference Committee, I would like to welcome all delegates to Edinburgh in April 2011.  The conference is being held in the Edinburgh Marriott Hotel, 111 Glasgow Road, Edinburgh EH12 8NF, telephone number 0131-334-9191. The hotel is situated 2 miles from Edinburgh Airport and 4 miles from the centre of Edinburgh.  For further details on the hotel and use of hotel facilities please see the hotel?s website at .

The hotel is easily accessible via road, rail or air.  At the hotel you will find plenty of parking should you arrive by car.  You are only a short taxi ride away from Edinburgh Airport and there is an excellent bus service from the centre of town, should you arrive by train.

The programme for the weekend will follow the normal tradition for the conference.  Friday night will start with the Topic Contest and the Virtual Speech Contest.  On Saturday, we have the official welcome from the Provost of Edinburgh City Council, and then the morning we have all been waiting for … the AGM, when we get the chance to practice our skills in verbal sparring as we discuss the ins and outs of the motions and the minutes! Then not all is lost as we head towards the Speech Contest in the afternoon with just enough time to dress to impress at the Gala Dinner.  Sunday morning, nursing hangovers and sore throats from talking too much, the Ecumenical Service will be held for all those up bright and early, followed by the Evaluation Contest. The conference finishes at 12.30pm and we bid you farewell from Edinburgh.

For those who do not wish to attend the AGM (and we know that this is a difficult decision to make), a partners? outing has been arranged.  You will be whisked away from the hotel to the Ocean Terminal and the Royal Yacht Britannia, arriving back in time for the Speech Contest at 3pm.

For those who are arriving early and perhaps staying for a few days, Edinburgh has a lot to offer.  Whether you are interested in its history, its architecture, its museums and galleries, or prefer retail therapy, then Edinburgh has plenty to occupy your time.  Further information will be in your delegate pack.

Please remember that the hotel will release all remaining bedrooms 6 weeks before the conference starts i.e. on 4 March 2011, so make sure you get your booking in before then.

The Conference Team and I look forward to welcoming you to Edinburgh.
